The BCCI hasn’t had the best of times in the last couple of years. After getting past the spot-fixing scandal in the IPL 2013, they had to suspend Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings for two years due to corruption charges. Now a sports editor of a news channel has dilapidated the reputation of the BCCI further.

According to the channel, they have exclusive access to an audit report done by Deloitte of the BCCI which reveals a number of corruption charges and misdoings by the Indian board and State Associations. The report underlines the number of losses due to delays in construction and misappropriation of funds. It has also outlined a few State Associations of practising the same.

Republic TV reported that the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Tripura have acquired lands collectively of the value of Rs 221 crore. Gujarat, Andhra, Haryana and Punjab have carried out a large number of transactions without proper documentations. Cost overruns due to delay in construction is a problem faced by many companies in India and BCCI isn’t any different. Andhra, Assam, Orissa and Mumbai have had significant unexplained delays in construction of stadiums leading to heavy losses.

Gujarat, Haryana and Odisha Boards haven’t had an audit of the costs incurred for stadium constructions which raise eyebrows. Audits are run to find out whether the statements of an organisation are true and fair or not. Gujarat, Saurashtra and Manipur Boards have used government stadiums in the past without any lease agreements. A number of states including champions Karnataka are said to be in non-compliance of the income tax, service tax and provident fund.

More wrongdoings

Three associations: Himachal, Tripura and Punjab are alleged of having the association bank accounts in the names of their respective office bearers. The NCA along with Hyderabad, Assam and Manipur is said to have misappropriated funds as they sought cash loans without proper documentations.

If the above charges are true, a number of associations will be under a lot of trouble. The BCCI, which is already under the pump of the Supreme Court and the Lodha Panel, will have to answer a lot of questions to the authorities.
