India had their chances to get a stranglehold on England during the fourth Test at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton. At many stages, they found themselves in the driver’s seat, but couldn’t carry on an make the opportunities count. In the fourth innings, they were set a target of 245 runs after some resilient performances by England’s middle and lower order batsmen.

The visitors lost three wickets in quick succession, but Virat Kohli and Ajinkya scored half-centuries to inject momentum into the Indian innings. Both cobbled a 101-run partnership and got their team back into the match. However, after the Indian captain was dismissed, wickets went down at frequent intervals, much to the discomfort of the Indian team.

I’m not only talking about Hardik Pandya

Ravichandran Ashwin scored 25 runs, but couldn’t save his team from a 60-run defeat. To add insult to injury, they also lost the series 1-3 with one match remaining to be played at Kennington Oval in London. In the meantime. Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian cricket is highly dissatisfied with India’s performance and reckons that some players don’t warrant a place in the team.

“In this Indian team, some players don’t deserve to be in the national team. They should not only be left out of the playing eleven but also from the squad,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying in Sports Tak.

He also lashed out at Hardik Pandya, mentioning that he doesn’t deserve to be touted as a genuine all-rounder after how he has performed in the series, barring the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Moreover, Gavaskar mentioned that few other players should also be dropped, but refrained from naming them.

“I’m not only talking about Hardik Pandya but also two to three more cricketers, who should be shown the door in order for them to work hard and fight for their places in the Indian team,” the 69-year-old added.
