Virat Kohli, the Indian cricketer, has recently been a recipient of severe criticism owing to the on-field banters he has been involved in during India’s ongoing Test series against Australia. The 30-year-old has had some heated altercations with the opposition captain Tim Paine, especially during the second Test at the new Perth Stadium that the visitors lost by a significant 146 runs.
Subsequently, former cricketers like Sanjay Manjrekar and Michael Hussey lashed out at the Delhi-born cricketer for the unsportsmanlike behavior on the cricket pitch. Recently, Naseeruddin Shah, the 68-year-old veteran Bollywood actor, slammed Kohli and said that he’s the worst-behaved cricketer. Moreover, he also mentioned that he has no plans of leaving India.
Everyone has a different perspective
However, Kohli has got support from former cricketers like Allan Border and Darren Lehmann. In the meantime, Suniel Shetty, another actor from the Indian film fraternity, came out in support of Kohli and referred to him as the ‘God of Cricket’. Apart from that, he didn’t mince any words in saying that he doesn’t agree with Shah’s harsh comments. Furthermore, he lauded India’s fast bowling contingent.
“For me, Kohli is the god of cricket when it comes to the Indian cricket team. If Indian cricket has become aggressive, they think of winning then it’s because of Kohli. Everyone has a different perspective. I don’t think with the glass as half-empty. Everyone goes through a phase in their career where people do things out of passion and aggression,” Shetty was quoted as saying in Sports Tak.
“The more you mature, the settled you get. I was an aggressive child growing up as I was a martial artist. I don’t believe what Naseeruddin Shah remarked about Virat. The Australians have always believed that the Indians are underdogs and given it to us. And we are the most talented as far as the pace bowling contingent is concerned. Moreover, our bench stretch is also pretty strong,” he added.
