Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner today couldn’t hide his excitement as one of his prized possessions achieved the highest echelon in the ODI bowler rankings.

Young Rashid Khan is less than three years old in his international career but his reputation and ranking rise with every passing match and series. He is one of the most successful wrist spinners in international cricket at the moment and has been able to bamboozle batsmen irrespective of the opponent, pitch, conditions and reputation. He has been a vital cog in the Afghanistan team’s success who managed to win a Test status last year.

He was once again at his very best in the five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, an opponent Afghanistan have romped past of late. In the series, he picked 16 wickets and maintained an unbelievable average of 7.93. This gave him a huge boost in the ICC ODI bowler rankings and Rashid jumped up to the apex position. At 19 years and 153 days, he is the youngest ever player to occupy the highest spot and the first from his country ever to do so.

His success isn’t just restricted to international cricket and has been a huge influence for his teams in T20 leagues. He was picked by the Sunrisers in the previous edition of the IPL and he returned them rich dividends. Thus the franchise retained him using the Right to Match card in the 2018 auction even if it meant shelling INR 9 crore.

After Rashid’s rise to the top, his skipper Warner was a proud man and took to Twitter to congratulate him. The Aussie wrote- ‘Legend @rashidkhan_19 well done mate’
