The Otago Volts won both the matches they played so far as they defeated Canterbury Kings by five wickets and sealed a dramatic 1-run win over the Wellington Firebirds in the previous encounter. The Firebirds were cruising at 107/0 in the 11th over in the 168-run chase. However, Christi Viljoen’s 4/23 restricted the Wellington team to only 166/9. Otago will now take on the defending champions Northern Knights who are coming from a defeat against the Central Stags.

Knights began the tournament with a 45-run win over the Wellington Firebirds but lost by five wickets to the Stags. The Knights got better of the Otago Volts on both occasions in the previous season but lost four consecutive T20 meetings against them between 2014/15 and 2016/17. The coming game will be the first for the Knights at the Molyneux Park. The Volts have named an unchanged 12-man squad for this fixture while Knights excluded Peter Bocock from the 13-man squad of the previous game.

Match Details:

The 7th match of the Super Smash T20 2018-19 will be played between Otago Volts and Northern Knights at the Molyneux Park in Alexandra.

The match starts at 4:00 PM local time (3:00 AM GMT) (8:30 AM IST).

There will be no official broadcast for this match due to the ongoing New Zealand-Sri Lanka Test match.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The Molyneux Park hasn’t been a happy venue for the batting sides in the shortest format. The highest score in the five T20 games hosted by this venue is only 159 and only two times a team made more 150 batting first. The totals have been too less to defend as chasing teams ended up winning on four instances.

Squads:

Otago Volts:

Jacob Duffy (C), Neil Broom, Ben Cox, Josh Finnie, Shawn Hicks, Jack Hunter, Anaru Kitchen, Michael Rippon, Hamish Rutherford, Matthew Bacon, Nathan Smith, Christi Viljoen.

Northern Knights:

Power Picks:

Matthew Bacon could be coming into the playing XI in the place of Nathan Smith or Jack Hunter who collectively claimed 2 wickets in two matches for the Otago team. Bacon has bagged nine wickets including two four-fers in the four T20 games he played in the previous edition of the tournament.

Corey Anderson is also expected to make it to the playing XI after missing out from the last game. He scored 514 runs in the 15 innings at an average of 42.83 and a strike-rate of 169.07 during the T20 Blast earlier this year.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

The Knights’ openers Tim Seifert and Anton Devcich will be the first ones to be considered for multiplier role due to their consistency and contribution in every game. Hamish Rutherford and Neil Broom are the alternatives as captain. Mitchell Santner and Anaru Kitchen are the ones to be considered as vice-captain.

Best Playing XI:

Keeper – Tim Seifert

Batsmen – Hamish Rutherford, Dean Brownlie, Neil Broom, Daryl Mitchell

All-rounders – Anaru Kitchen, Anton Devcich, Mitchell Santner

Bowlers – Jacob Duffy, Christi Viljoen, Ish Sodhi

Risky Playing XI:

Keeper – Ben Cox

Batsmen – Hamish Rutherford, Corey Anderson, Neil Broom, Daryl Mitchell

All-rounders – Anaru Kitchen, Anton Devcich, Brett Hampton

Bowlers – Matthew Bacon, Christi Viljoen, Ish Sodhi

Expert Advice:

Anaru Kitchen, Anton Devcich, Mitchell Santner and Michael Rippon have been consistent among the all-rounders. All the four players fared well in both the matches they played. However, only three of these four players at maximum can be taken in the XI. Ripmissesmiss out in this case as the other three players bat higher in the order.

Probable Winners:

Northern Knights are expected to get back into winning ways by handing the Otago Volts their first defeat of the season.
