Since the time Mumbai Indians have lifted their fifth IPL Trophy, experts are talking about players who were traded to MI from other franchises, and they made a mark there. Adding to the same context, former India opener Gautam Gambhir feels that KKR committed its ‘biggest loss’ when they let go of Suryakumar Yadav and he went on to display his brilliance for the five-time champions.

Gambhir had led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. Since the time he left, KKR has not been able to bring its third IPL trophy home. The two-time winning skipper feels that it has a lot to do with Surya leaving the team. As Mumbai Indians stole all the glory in the IPL 13 season yet again, one cannot forget certain batsmen who were consistent for them since day one.

Suryakumar Yadav is definitely the name who turned all the heads this year again with his phenomenal performances. He turned out to be the third-highest scorer of the Mumbai Indians after Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock. He amassed 480 runs in 15 matches he played with the champion team at an average of 40.00.

Before joining MI in 2018, Yadav was part of the KKR squad and performed the role of a finisher for them. However, his luck changed after he was roped in by MI in 2018 and caused thunder that season by scoring 512 runs that season.

Suryakumar is not easily earned by MI, says Gautam Gambhir

“Suryakumar Yadav is not easily earned by Mumbai Indians. He’s probably the biggest loss that KKR has ever had in 13 years. Someone who was young, came into KKR, played for four years, obviously couldn’t get the number where he should have batted at because of the batting line up we had at that time,” Gambhir told ESPNcricinfo.

He added that Yadav is a selfless guy, and one can make him bat at any number, and he would do that without any problem. “Very selfless guy, you make him bat at No. 6 or 7. He can bat at any number. There will never be a phase where he’d like to bat at 3. And that is the kind of players you want,” Gambhir added.
