Sharjeel Khan hasn’t had the glorious of times in the last two years. He played one match for the Islamabad United in the 2017 Pakistan Super League after which his career has turned upside down. He was guilty of being involved in the horrendous crime of spot-fixing following which he was handed a five-year-ban from all forms of cricket by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

He was charged with five breaches of the PCB’s anti-corruption code and was found guilty on all counts by the three-man tribunal. Two-and-half years of the ban meant that Sharjeel couldn’t have returned to the sport before the mid of 2019, which is still quite some time away. The ban took effect from February 10, 2017. PCB chairman Najam Sethi also affirmed the board’s zero-tolerance policy on such matters.

Sharjeel breaches rule?

Sharjeel was present at his sentencing but did not take questions. The cricketer may find himself in grave trouble as he was recently seen playing competitive cricket as per the reports in Business Recorder. The tainted cricketer took part in the All Pakistan T20 League in Hyderabad, which is under the affiliation of the national cricket board.

The event is organised with the collaboration of District Hyderabad Cricket Association under PCB rules. Ibtisam Sheikh, who played for the Peshawar Zalmi in this year’s PSL, is also playing alongside Sharjeel. Sharjeel Khan has played 25 ODIs, 15 T20Is and one Test in which he has notched 812, 360 and 44 runs respectively.

His last international assignment was the ODI series in Australia back in 2016-17. He scored 250 runs in five matches at an average of 50. The Pakistan board must be keeping a close eye on Sharjeel’s actions and it will be interesting to see how they react to the breach of policy.
