Mohammad Shahzad and Shapoor Zadran have seen the ups of downs of Afghanistan cricket over the years. Way back in 2009 when the national team was blessed with an ODI status, the duo was well and truly in the scheme of things. The experienced campaigners are currently taking part in the third edition of the T10 League at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Even as Shahzad is plying his craft for the Deccan Gladiators, Shapoor is cranking up the pace for the Karnataka Tuskers. The two teams faced off in the 10th match of the extravaganza. Shahzad had a few lucky breaks, yet he could only manage 13 runs of eight deliveries with the help of three fours. His knock, which was looking ominous, was cut short by Shapoor in the second over of the chase.

In the second ball of the over, Shahzad carted Shapoor over the extra cover region followed by another boundary, this time over mid-wicket. The batsman got a reprieve in the fourth ball as Upul Tharanga dropped an absolute sitter. Zadran bowled a well-directed short delivery at the batsman’s body and Shahzad could get no timing, but the bowler didn’t have luck going his way.
However, Shapoor didn’t let Shahzad off the hook in the fifth delivery of the over. Shahzad was in no mood to die wondering and he went for another outrageous, rather ugly, heave across the line. Shapoor was clever enough to churn out the wily slower delivery, which the batsman couldn’t read. Shahzad ended up missing the ball all ends up and his stumps went for a walk.
Shapoor celebrated the dismissal in a rather unique manner. While Shahzad was walking back to the dugout, the speedster pushed his Afghan teammate from the back, and gave him a send-off. But Shahzad didn’t get perturbed and took it in the right spirit. It was understandably a moment of camaraderie as both Shapoor and Shahzad have played loads of cricket together over the years.
