There were two good games of competitive cricket that were played on the 20th day of Vitality T20 Blast. While one was a North group game, the other was a South group game. In the first game, Surrey faced Glamorgan at the Kennington Oval in London. It was Yorkshire who was up against Leicestershire in the second game of the day which was played at Headingley in Leeds. Fortunately, there weren’t any rain interruptions.

With an impressive win in a high scoring game, Glamorgan moved slightly up in the points table to get hold of the sixth position. Yorkshire, after a huge embarrassment in their previous encounter against Derbyshire, came back strong. They registered a massive win to get their net run rate back positive and are currently fourth in the North group. Here is how things progressed in these matches:

Surrey vs Glamorgan – South Group

In a high scoring encounter, Surrey won the toss and opted to bat first. Furthermore, they also did well to post a big total on the board. Jason Roy and Aaron Finch provided the team with a good start. They added 54 runs within 6 overs but both fell within a span of six balls.

However, the innings was restabilised by a brilliant knock from Nic Maddinson. He scored 70 off just 45 balls before he was run out in the 20th over. Surrey scored 194 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs and they would have been content with the score halfway through their innings.

However, it wasn’t to be as Glamorgan stunned them by chasing the target down quite comfortably. All it took for them was 19 overs to gun the huge total down. Despite losing the openers early, they kept their calm to bag an impressive victory. Craig Meschede scored 43 off just 19 balls to set the tone at the top. With a 32-ball 58 from Kiran Carlson and 26-ball 46 from Graham Wagg, Glamorgan sealed the game with four wickets and one over to spare.

Brief Scores:

Surrey: 194/4 in 20 overs (Nic Maddinson 70, Aaron Finch 30, Graham Wagg 1/21)

Glamorgan: 195/6 in 19 overs (Kiran Carlson 58, Graham Wagg 46*, Tom Curran 2/42)

Result: Glamorgan won by 4 wickets

Yorkshire vs Leicestershire – North Group

Yorkshire would have been very disappointed with their batting performance in the last game. However, they ensured that they didn’t repeat their mistakes and proved why they were one of the toughest teams in the tournament. Batting first, opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore scored a 44-ball 53 to give the foundation. David Willey who came in at No 3 played an aggressive knock as he scored 31 off 17 balls. The best innings though came from the bat of Kane Williamson who scored 77 off 41 balls at a strike rate close to 190 to take his team to 187 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs.

Leicestershire was nowhere to be in the chase. Both their openers, Delport and Dexter were dismissed for 20 runs. Someone else in the middle order had to take the responsibility. But, the wickets kept tumbling one after the other. They only managed to score 127 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs falling well short of the target by 60 runs. Callum Parkinson with 27 runs was the highest run scorer. Jack Brooks picked 3 wickets in the innings while David Willey and Azeem Rafiq scalped a couple each.

Brief Scores:

Yorkshire: 187/5 in 20 overs (Kane Williamson 77, Tom Kohler-Cadmore 53, Colin Ackermann 1/14)

Leicestershire: 127/9 in 20 overs (Callum Parkinson 27*, Cameron Delport 20, Jack Brooks 3/23)

Result: Yorkshire won by 60 runs
