The rain has come in the way of the T20 Blast 2019 yet again. As a result, two of the four matches that were scheduled to be played on Sunday were washed out. However, fortunately, there wasn’t any kind of interruption in the other two matches and hence full game of cricket was possible.

Martin Guptill, who has been struggling with his form for a few weeks now, unleashed his full potential against Durham. He along with Riki Wessels was unstoppable and these two won the game for their team all by themselves. Another impressive performer of the day was Babar Azam. However, his efforts went in vain yet again.

Here is how things progressed on the day:

Worcestershire vs Durham – North Group

Durham was asked to bat first in this encounter. But unlike the last game, the openers didn’t provide the team with a great start. There were contributions from Alex Lees (44 off 31), Peter Handscomb (37 off 28) and Jack Burnham (23 off 14). Captain Stuart Poynter with a 10-ball 17 provided the team with the final impetus as they got to 181/8.

While this was surely a defendable total, Martin Guptill and Riki Wessels had other plans. They blew the opposition apart with some clean striking and the bowlers had no clue what to do. Wessels got out after scoring 74 runs from only 29 balls while Martin Guptill played even more aggressive cricket. He was unbeaten on 86 from 31 deliveries and thus the target was chased down in only 12.1 overs.

Brief Scores:

DUR: 181/8 in 20 overs (Alex Lees 44, Peter Handscomb 37, Dillion Pennington 2/26)

WORCS: 184/1 in 12.1 overs (Martin Guptill 86*, Riki Wessels 74, Brydon Carse 1/37)

Result: Worcestershire won by 9 wickets.

Somerset vs Sussex – South Group

This was another interesting game and Alex Carey was the show stealer here. Batting first, Sussex put 184 runs on the board. Australia’s wicket-keeper batsman Carey scored 78 runs from 46 balls while Laurie Evans mustered 33 runs. Lewis Gregory bowled really well and picked up three wickets.

In the chase, Somerset openers gave them a very good stand for the first wicket. Wicket-keeper Tom Banton scored 51 runs off 45 balls while Babar Azam piled on 83 runs from 50 balls. However, the rest of the batsmen couldn’t really capitalise and kept walking back to the pavilion one after the other. Thus, Somerset ended up falling short of the target by 13 runs in this game of the T20 Blast.

Brief Scores:

SUS: 184/8 in 20 overs (Alex Carey 78, Laurie Evans 33, Lewis Gregory 3/30)

SOM: 171/5 in 20 overs (Babar Azam 83, Tom Banton 51, Tymal Mills 1/27)

Result: Sussex won by 13 runs.
