In the recent draft, the shock call-up for the Bloem City Blazers for the T20 Global League was 18-year-old Akhona Mnyaka and he, therefore, featured as a future star in the latest edition of SA Cricket magazine. With this contract, Mnyaka would be provided with an opportunity to share the dressing room of Bloemfontein based franchise team in the upcoming tournament.

The marquee player for the Bloem City Blazers is David Miller while the other prominent names in the squad are Kieron Pollard, Dane Paterson, Chris Jordan, Dwayne Smith, Aaron Phangiso, Morne van Wyk and Ryan ten Doeschate. Even though Matthew Erasmus was unanimously elected by the voting panel for the Hero of the Tournament for his performances in the Coca-Cola Schools T20 challenge, it was the name of Akhona Mnyaka which was the most talked about in the event.

SA U-19 hails work ethics of Mnyaka

Former Protean spinner Robin Peterson was one of the members of the voting panel. He was full of praises for the 18-year old bowler. “I think that Akhona has been outstanding with the ball for Hudson Park. Good death bowling is a quality that we look for in our South African cricketing heroes and I hope that it will help in preparation for the rest of his career,” commented Peterson according to SA Cricket Mag.

The South African U-19 coach also hailed the young bowler for his work ethics. “He is one of the quickest learners I have ever coached. He works really hard and can run in and bowl the whole day.He is unique. He has good skills at the death and it was shown by the way he executed this skill in the Schools T20 semi-finals,” quoted Lawrence Mahatlane. “The road to success comes through hard work, determination and sacrifice,” remarked Mnyaka when asked what motto he lives by.
