Sri Lanka’s ploy of inserting Avishka Fernando in the middle order failed miserably. He is regarded as one of Sri Lanka’s brightest talents. He showed glimpses of his talent in World Cup 2019, but this T20 World Cup was a disaster for him.

Overall, in four innings, he scored 4, 13, 3, and 0 runs for a total of 20 runs. He only reached double digits once, averaging only 5. Despite Mahela Jayawardene’s support, he did not clearly stand up to the role. Perhaps his role was not clearly stated by the team management.

While batting in the middle order, the right-hander appeared completely clueless. Spin was used by teams to tackle him, and he eventually fell into their trap.
