Australia won their first-ever T20 World Cup title by beating New Zealand in the final of the 2021 T20 World Cup in the deserts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). And, one man who predicted the Aussie victory way back on 23rd October 2021, when the Super 12 stages of the tournament started was Irfan Pathan.

Pathan tweeted that after analyzing the conditions on offer as well as the composition of the teams, his top 2 teams of the 2021 T20 World Cup will be India and Australia. Pathan also added that he would have loved to put the West Indies side in his Top 2, but they are not strong enough in the bowling department.

“Looking at the condition and team strengths, my top 2 teams this T20 World Cup are INDIA AND AUSTRALIA. Would have loved to put West Indies in top 2 but I feel they are thin on their bowling department! What’s yours ??,” tweeted Irfan Pathan.

Several fans did not agree with Irfan Pathan’s prediction

When Irfan Pathan made his prediction at the beginning of the Super 12 stages, many fans did not agree with him. While one fan mocked Pathan for choosing Australia as the favourites, another stated that the kangaroos are definitely not the favourites to win the trophy.

Yet another fan tweeted that the Aussie batting lineup is weak, and the kangaroos are poor in the spin bowling department as well. But then, the ‘Men in Yellow’ proved their naysayers wrong and proved Irfan Pathan right by producing a scintillating performance throughout the tournament.

Aussie veteran David Warner won the Player of the Tournament award for scoring 289 runs in the tournament at an average of 48.17 and a strike rate of 146.70. The left-hander plundered 3 fifties in the competition as well.
