Extending their winning streak, England have defeated Sri Lanka by 26 runs to become the first team to qualify for the semi-finals in the T20 World Cup 2021. It was another empathic show from the Three Lions as they recorded their fourth consecutive win in the competition. Sri Lanka did pretty well to challenge the Three Lions and even looked in command at one stage. However, they eventually fell well short of the target.
As far as the proceedings of the game are concerned, the coin landed in Sri Lanka’s favour and Dasun Shanaka unsurprisingly opted to bowl at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Unlike the previous games, the England got off to a dismal start, losing three wickets in the powerplay overs. However, Jos Buttler joined forces with skipper Eoin Morgan and since then it was one-way traffic.
Buttler slammed a brilliant ton as England posted 163/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Chasing the challenging total, the Lankan Lions looked in the hunt for the best part. However, the scoring rate kept climbing up with time and the Lankan batters couldn’t keep up. As a result, Sri Lanka got skittled out for 137 runs, losing the contest by 26 runs.
