T20 World Cup 2022: ICC announce fixtures for UAE and Ireland

The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13. The tournament host would be defending their title in their home conditions, having won the previous edition against New Zealand in Dubai in a one-sided contest. The top eight teams will begin their campaign directly in the Super 12 stages.

Meanwhile, the other teams will battle it out in the group stages to earn their right of competing in Super 12. Lately, it has officially been revealed that two of those teams have qualified for the pool stages of the eighth edition of the showpiece event, and will be on their way to Australia. They are the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ireland, respectively.

UAE and Ireland confirm T20 World Cup 2022 berths

The International Cricket Council (ICC)’s official website on March 21 confirmed that the UAE and Ireland are through to the group stages of this year’s T20 World Cup down under, after victories over Nepal and Oman, respectively, in the semi-finals of the eight-team qualifier. The Middle Eastern country had got the better of Nepal in the first semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A by 68 runs on February 22, while Ireland beat Oman in the other semifinal on the same day by 56 runs.

While UAE confirmed their place in Group A of the first round after defeating Ireland in the final by seven wickets, the Irish team are in Group B. In the T20 World Cup, UAE would be facing the likes of the 2014 winners Sri Lanka, and Namibia. The runner-up of Qualifier B in June will be joining them as the fourth team. Their three matches are set to be played at Kardinia Park Stadium in Geelong.

Ireland, on the other hand, would be competing with the two-time winners West Indies, and Scotland. They would be joined by the winner of Qualifier B as the fourth team. Their three games will be contested at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
