Coronavirus has immensely affected the lives of people across the globe. The people are left in despair due to the outbreak of the life-threatening virus. Earlier, Indian Premier League got abandoned due to the same. And, now Pakistan Super League 2020 has been called off that was almost moving in its fag end.
The battle between six teams to lift PSL 2020 began on 20th of February. It was the maiden season that was organized in Pakistan and it received lots of applauds from the fans and cricketing fraternity. The stadiums were full of spectators cheering for their favourite cricketers on the field. After a total of 30 games, the four teams that managed get their place in the semi-finals were Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans, Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings.
But, just ahead of the PSL semi-finals, the news broke that the officials have postponed those games due to COVID-19 threats. There is no update on when these games will be played but at least they will not be played at the moment looking forward to conditions. This major decision was taken as a precaution for the players that will feature in the crucial games.
Shahid Afridi feels postponing PSL 2020 is the best thing to do
Now, Shahid Afridi, the former player from Pakistan shared a post saying that it is sad to watch the way PSL has come to its end. He also added the fact that the safety of the people is the prime objective and especially for the people, who are travelling back to their homes.
Afridi felt that the decision would have been taken earlier but still it is the best thing to do at the moment. In the end, he hilariously questioned fans if Multan Sultans can be nominated as the tournament champions. In fact, the veteran plays for Multan Sultans and his side ended up being the league toppers after amassing 14 points.
Afridi took to his Twitter handle and shared a post that read, “Sad to see the PSL end, but health and safety of all concerned is the key, esp those who are travelling back to their homes. Perhaps the decision could have been taken earlier, with regards to the trophy…well the table-topper should be handed the trophy?.”
