Tabraiz Shamsi just loves how MS Dhoni has changed perceptions with his cricket

Team India is currently playing the first ODI of the series against Windies in Guwahati, Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bowl first. Thus MS Dhoni was in action behind the wickets and South African chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi is in awe of how the veteran has been going about the business behind the wickets.

Technically speaking Dhoni isn’t the best wicketkeeper but a look at his stats and hardly anyone has comparable numbers in international cricket. He keeps with hard hands but seldom spills anything. Without a doubt, he is the fastest, smoothest and most successful keeper in terms of stumpings.

Dhoni is equally effective against the pacers as well as spinners. The senior man has 256 catches and 38 stumpings in Test cricket, 306 catches, 113 stumpings in ODIs along with 54 catches and 33 stumpings in T20Is. It is a total of 800 dismissals in international cricket before the ongoing match and thus Shamsi’s praise is quite understandable.

His unconventional style of play wouldn’t have impressed those who are fans of the textbook style of cricket but the effectiveness remains unquestionable. Though his batting and big hitting prowess have faded with age. At 37 he is still very very sharp behind the stumps.

Dhoni also seemed to be playing this series with a new look. He sported a goatee on the eve of the game. There were occasions when the two Indian spinners in this game Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja were operating where he affected a really fast stumping. Though he has only been part of one dismissal thus far, Shamsi highlighted that Dhoni has changed the way wicketkeeping was perceived. With his success, he has proved that what works is the right way of doing things.
