Essex County Cricket Club has suffered a huge blow in the NatWest T20 Blast campaign. They have lost the services of Bangladeshi batsman Tamim Iqbal, who has left the club owing to personal reasons.
The news has been released by the Club’s official website. The club wished Tamim all the best and also mentioned that the club respects his privacy and appreciate the same from everyone.
Iqbal in the Champions Trophy:
Tamim Iqbal has been Bangladesh’s best batsman by far in recent times. The left-handed batsman had a tremendous Champions Trophy campaign and was also included in the combined Champions Trophy XI declared by the ICC for his stellar performance.
He made his Champions Trophy campaign memorable by smashing two fifties and a brilliant ton in just 4 matches that he played. His total runs piled up to a staggering 293 runs. His tremendous century came against hosts England where he scored 125 runs in a innings of his life. He followed it up with a 95 against the mighty Aussies but missed the second century in the tournament by 5 runs. He also did put up a valiant effort against India scoring 70 runs, but unfortunately, Bangladesh lost the semi-final clash.
The absence of Tamim Iqbal might prove very costly for the club. The club has already lost their opening two fixtures against Kent and Surrey respectively. Tamim Iqbal could not live up to the expectations against Kent as he was dismissed for just 7 runs. Essex currently stands 8th in the South table with zero points from their 2 games. Only Sussex are behind them having played only a single game and losing that.
Iqbal was the club’s second overseas signing this season after Pakistani speedster Mohammad Amir. Amir decided to join Essex after his rampant display with the ball in the Champions Trophy final. Pakistan laid their hands upon the Champions Trophy for the first time due to the heroics of the controversial bowler.
