Team India has been on a herculean rise in the limited overs format of the game in the recent past. Their supremacy in the 50 overs format can be seen from the way they have romped into the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy. Their recent performances in the ODIs have seen them escalate up to the number 2 position in the recent release of the ICC ODI rankings. Now, the men in blue have a chance to claim the number one spot in the ODI rankings.

India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in the big final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 on June 18. The result of the match will have a direct impact on India’s position in the ICC rankings. If team India wins the match against Pakistan to lift the coveted Champions Trophy for the second time in a row, they will move up to the numero uno position in the rankings. The Indian team has 118 points to their credit in the current rankings.

This is one rating point behind the tally of 119 points of the South African team. A win in the Champions Trophy final will see India topple the Proteas from the top spot. On the contrary, if the men in blue lose the final to Pakistan, they will slip down to the number three spot in the rankings.

Bigger picture for Pakistan

Currently, team Australia is ranked number 3 and is only one point behind India with 117 rating points to their name. Clearly, the Virat Kohli-led side will have everything to play for in the big finals. On the other hand, the spectacular turnaround shown by the Pakistani team has seen them jump to number 7 spot in the current rankings.

They had entered the competition as the number 8th ranked side. They will try to win the finals to consolidate their claims for the direct qualification for the ICC World Cup 2019.
