Team India jumps to number 2 position in ICC ODI rankings

Team India has jumped to the number 2 position in the latest ICC ODI rankings. The men in blue continued their merry run in the 50 over format of the game. They recently drubbed their neighbors Bangladesh in the second semi-final of the ongoing edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. The stupendous run of form for the team is evident from the fact that they have trounced the opposition in dominating fashion in three out of their last four games.
India will now take on Pakistan in the finals of the Champions Trophy 2017 on June 18. At present, they occupy the second spot in the rankings with 118 points to their name. South Africa continue to top the standings with 119 rating points. The Proteas have had a rough run of form in the recent past. They were beaten by England 2-1 in the ODI series prior to the commencement of the Champions Trophy.
In the ICC mega event, they failed to impress as well and crashed out without making it to the semi-finals. Team Australia, another team that looked good in the lead up to the CT 2017, bowed out before the semis. They are placed at number 3 with 117 points. England, the semi-finalists of the event, come at number 4 with New Zealand standing at number 5. Bangladesh’s impressive run of form in the recent past continued in the big tournament.
They created history of their own by making it to the semi-finals before crashing out. They are at number 6 spot with 94 rating points. Pakistan, who entered the Champions Trophy as the number 8 ranked side, have jumped to number 7 spot with 93 points.
They have a very good chance to escalate above Bangladesh if they go on to win the Champions Trophy. Expect the tables to change after the finals of the coveted event. Team India will have their claim to the top as well if they outclass the arch-rivals.
