The Indian fans could not have asked for a better gift from Team India on the Independence Day. As India was gearing up to celebrate the 73rd Independence Day, the Men in Blue thrashed West Indies by six wickets (DLS method) to clinch the three-match series 2-0. The first match of the series was washed out. India had then made light work of the hosts in the second ODI too. With this win, India are yet to lose a match on the tour.

Skipper Virat Kohli was the star man once again as he scored his second consecutive century to take his side home. Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis gave West Indies a solid start after the hosts won the toss and decided to bat first. Gayle smashed 72 from 41 balls as he struck five sixes and eight fours and shared an opening stand of 115 inside 11 overs with Lewis (43 off 29).

Lewis and Gayle then fell in the space of five balls as India pegged the hosts back, with Jason Holder’s side on 158-2 after 22 overs before rain intervened. The match was reduced to 35 overs per side and Nicholas Pooran blasted 30 off 16 balls after the resumption of play as the West Indies posted 240-7. India were then given a revised total of 255 in 35 overs.

India once again started shakily and lost three wickets for just 93. However, before West Indies could make further inroads, Kohli and Shreyas Iyer came to India’s rescue. Kohli and Shreyas Iyer (65) shared a match-defining 120-run fourth-wicket partnership. Kohli remained unbeaten on 114 as India reached home in the 33rd over.
