The Pakistan team had recently arrived in England for their preparations for the upcoming edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. The men in green will play their first match of the mega event against their arch rivals India at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The Indo-Pak rivalry is widely known one and it needs no guesses to see the match has already been a sold out affair.

Prior to the commencement of the tournament, the Pakistan team has received its new kit. They were spotted having a rigorous fitness and gym session recently. The new look kit has the color combination of grey and green. Interestingly, the green tinge here looks more towards the bluish side of the color form. The names of sponsors and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) logo is embossed on the jersey and the lowers.

Talking about the cricket form, the team has been riding high after having won their last ODI assignment. They beat the West Indies side in the Caribbean Islands. They also managed to convincingly beat West Indies in the T20Is and the Test series on their tour.

The bigger picture

The tour to the Caribbean Islands was their only preparatory ground before heading into the ICC Champions Trophy. They do not have any other international ODI assignment before that. Also, the Champions Trophy is the only opportunity for Pakistan team to improve on their ODI rankings. They are currently placed at number 8 in the ODI rankings, one below Bangladesh.

The rankings hold paramount importance since only the top 8 teams will qualify for the ICC World Cup 2019 directly. Pakistan will play two warm-up matches before heading into the tournament proper that commences on June 1. Their first warm-up match will be against Bangladesh on May 27 and the second against Australia on May 29. The team would want to get their act together before they clash with India in the mega event.
