A breathtaking game of cricket was panned out between the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on October 18, Sunday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In the gentleman’s game that favours batsman a little more, it was the Mumbai pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Punjab’s pace spearhead Mohammed Shami who ruled the show.

Both the teams could score only 176 runs while batting in 20 overs, as a result, the game went in the Super Over. Playing in the first Super Over, Kings’ skipper KL Rahul and left-hander Nicholas Pooran could score only 5 runs without smashing even a single boundary. The whole credit for this goes to the yorker king Bumrah as he once again proved his mettle as a world-class death over specialist.

With just 6 runs to defend in Super Over, Shami displayed his brilliant side as he restricted the two swashbuckling batsmen namely Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock to 5 runs. As the two bowlers ran the show in Dubai, the viewers witnessed a second Super Over of the night.

Preity Zinta lauds Mohammed Shami

Impressed by Shami for his extraordinary performance, the owner of Punjab franchise Preity Zinta took to Twitter to laud the pacer. Preity hailed Shami as the architect of Sunday’s victory and praised him for his incredible bowling spell. The 30-year-old had also taken two wickets of Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya during his four-over spell in the game.

“One can never imagine this chilled out person can unleash a beast on the cricket ground@MdShami11. You were one of the main architects of yesterday’s victory. Without your incredible bowling spell we would never have crossed the line.Thank you for being you. #Saddapunjab #Ting,” Preity tweeted.

The second Super Over resulted in a comprehensive victory for the Kings as they added another two points to their name in the points tally. Batting first in the second Super Over-clash, MI smashed 11 runs. But the Universe Boss Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal easily chased the target with the help of three boundaries. The victory ensured that Punjab are very much there in the competition of making it to the playoffs as they are now placed at sixth place with three wins in nine fixtures.
