The banned duo, Butt and Asif to undergo steps to gain PCB’s trust: The banned duo of Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif will have to go through a set of anti-corruption rehabilitation programs before landing their feet on the cricket ground to gain PCB’s trust.
The spot fixing bans of the two players expire’s on 1st September and the Board has planned a set of special rehabilitation programs for both the players, said the Chairman of PCB’s influential executive committee, Najam Sethi.
Sethi also informed that many players including those in the Pakistan Team are not happy about Butt, Asif or Mohammad Aamir being given a chance in the first class cricket straight away.
“I don’t think they have to go into first class cricket straightaway when the ban ends. They will have to attend the rehabilitation program of the PCB for two to three months,” Sethi told the Geo Super Channel.
“We had written to the ICC seeking clarification on some points and they have in reply left it to the PCB to complete the rehabilitation process of these players.”
Sethi refused to take names of the players who were not happy about the return of the trio but said that Ramiz Raza, the former Test captain had mentioned this in a recent column.
“Obviously we have to talk to these players, convince them and give them time to develop trust once again in the players coming back. The PCB itself needs to be very sure that they wouldn’t repeat the past because what happened in 2010 in England was very embarrassing and damaging for Pakistan cricket,” Sethi said.
The next challenge that is ahead of this trio is to meet and interact with the players and the Board members in order to gain the lost trust and prove their reformation.
“There are players in the national team who have apprehensions about trusting them once again and fear for the morale of the team specially since next year we tour England where the media is unlikely to not remind the Pakistan team about what happened in 2010.”
The media and people still questions the players who were named and fined after the Justice Malik Qayyum report, the trio has no doubt been given a green signal by the ICC to play in the domestic and International cricket but they will have to face the media, and answer their questions.
“Their apologies, confessions and reformation need to continue,” he added
