England’s ODI and T20I captain Eoin Morgan has been named the captain of the London Spirit men’s team in the inaugural edition of ‘The hundred’. The much-awaited tournament, which will take place next year, will consist of eight city-based franchise teams, each of which will field both a men’s and women’s team.

The Hundred will be the first of its kind format. Each innings will have a maximum of 100 balls while the bowlers will deliver either five or 10 consecutive balls but no more than 20 per match. Unlike the other formats, the ends will be changed after ten balls. The bowlers can deliver either five or 10 consecutive balls and a maximum of 20 balls. There are several other rules too as the cricketing world awaits to see the latest innovation in the game.

Morgan, nonetheless, will have a chance to create history against next summer when he leads London Spirit. The left-handed batsman has already registered his name in the history books by leading England to their first-ever World Cup triumph the last summer. He will be eyeing the same success when he leads London Spirit next year.

“As a player and a captain I am always looking for ways to improve and it’s clear from speaking to Shane – who has an amazing cricket brain, about everything from tactics in this new competition to how to get the best from our squad – that this is an exciting opportunity to take cricket forward,” Morgan said in an official statement.

Heather Knight to lead the women’s team:

The London Spirit also announced their women team’s captain. England women team’s star Heather Knight will be leading the London Spirit women’s team in the tournament’s inaugural edition. Knight had led England to their fourth Women’s World Cup in 2017. The franchise has also appointed Trevor Griffin as the women’s head coach.

“I am really looking forward to captaining the London Spirit women’s team in The Hundred next year. With the new format, there’s going to be the chance to have a real tactical input as a captain and I’m excited to work that out and also bring together a new team in a new competition,” Knight said.
