The Hundred: Alex Hales suffers successive groin blows while facing Reece Topley

Unusual sights are very common in the field of cricket, and many of them come up when a player suffers from a brutal injury on the field. The same thing happened with English batsman Alex Hales who is currently playing The Hundred– ECB’s new 100-ball format game. Hales, who is representing Trent Rockets was up in the game and endured successive blows on his groin area.

Hales was facing the left-arm pacer Reece Topley from Oval Invincibles and got hit on his groin area during the third over on back-to-back deliveries.  The match between the two teams was held on Sunday night and Hales was left in all the pain, getting down on the ground. He suffered the first blow when he failed to connect the delivery and lay down on the field, feeling intolerable pain.

However, he got up to face the next ball and this time, he moved towards the off side, tried to hit on the leg side, and missed it again while the ball hit him on the groin area. Though Hales endured the pain, his fellow cricketers decided to speak on the funny aspect of it where Sam Billings added, “Haven’t ever laughed like that on a cricket field! (emoticons: rolling on the floor laughing).”

“I think Alex Hales is still rolling around in the changing room. To get one in that area is bad enough but to get two in a row is tough. He is talking to us with a high voice,” said Hales’ teammate Samuel Cook after the match.

Liam Livingstone also went on to tweet about the situation and added that he understands this pain well enough. Though he talked of understanding the pain, his tweet came in sarcastic tone with a lot of laughing emojis. The same match was won by Oval Invincibles by nine runs where the game was reduced to 65 balls per side due to the wet outfield.
