Southern Brave picked up their third victory of the Hundred Men’s 2022 against the Trent Rockets in Match 25 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. With the win, the Southern Brave have made a move to the sixth position in the points table while Trent Rockets have two defeats in their seven games now so far.

Earlier in the game, Southern Brave elected to field first after winning the toss, and Alex Hales (8) was removed early in the bowling of Paul Stirling. Tom Kohler Cadmore followed him soon and the likes of Samit Patel and Dawid Malan needed a partnership desperately to get things back in place. Malan found himself in good timing and reached a half-century in the process while Patel provided him good support with a 15-ball 21.

Dawid Malan’s valiant half-century goes in vain

Malan perished after a 41-ball 59 comprising of four fours and two sixes and the skipper Lewis Gregory struggled to connect the big ones towards the end. Colin Munro’s 10-ball 16 could take the total only to 138 for 6 in the first innings. James Fuller was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 18 in his spell while Michael Hogan also scalped two wickets.

In reply, the Southern Brave had a disastrous start losing Paul Stirling for a duck and the skipper James Vince for a golden duck. Quinton de Kock and Alex Davies stitched a crucial partnership for the third wicket which helped the side to recover well and Ross Whiteley’s quickfire cameo of 21-ball 30 brought down the required rate. Davies reached a fantastic half-century by playing a responsible innings and adapted to the situation quite well.

Tim David’s 6 ball-19 comprising of two sixes took the Southern Brave home comfortably and Davies remained unbeaten on 51 off 43 balls with one four and a six. Gregory bowled an economical spell for the Trent Rockets while Sam Cook was among the wickets column yet again with two scalps.
