The brouhaha around the England Cricket Boards brainchild The Hundred is at its zenith with the identity of the all eight city-based franchises, English Men/Women’s centrally contracted cricketers and local icons revealed. Northern SuperChargers- a Headingley-based based franchise- opted for England all-rounder Ben Stokes ahead of the Yorkshireman duo of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow.
While Root will turn out for the Nottingham-based Trent Rockets, Test discards Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy will turn out for Welsh Fire and Oval invincibles. England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has been picked as the local icon for London Spirit, the flavor of the season Jofra Archer has been snared by the Southern Brave.
Apart from the Men’s players, the identifies of their counterparts were also revealed. While tearaway opener Danni Wyatt and fast bowler Anya Shrubsole have been picked up by Southern Brave, Trent Rockets have been racked up by all-rounders Natalie Sciver and Katherine Brunt. Likewise, Kate Cross and spinner Sophie Ecclestone have been acquired by Manchester Originals.
The Originals have also acquired the services of tearaway wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler besides also snaring Saqib Mahmood and Matt Parkinson as their local icon players. Birmingham Bears spearhead, English all-rounder Moeen Ali will stay in the city and play for the side named Birmingham Phoenix; a team that has picked up Chris Woakes and Pat Brown as their red-ball contacted and local icon player.

The rest of the squads will off-course be completed during the mega draft- the 1st ever in English history- which will take place on the 20th of October. It is expected to be a glitzy affair with the who’s who of world cricket throwing their hat in the ring for the mega auction. As many as 165 overseas players such as Lasith Malinga, Faf du Plessis, David Warner, Rashid Khan, Chris Gayle, Steven Smith, Shahid Afridi, Aaron Finch have registered for the marquee event.
However, there was one other thing that took place after the mini-draft. Post the announcement of the players, the jerseys of each of the eight city-based franchises were unveiled. And, courtesy of their ‘not-so-attractive’ outlook, the fans on Twitter had a field day.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:

What's The Hundred actually designed to do, revitalise cricket or start a diabetes epidemic? https://t.co/6TYUPNzrYO
