In the ongoing first Test match between England-India, the visitors dominated the proceedings. India’s pace bowling tandem reaped rewards as the hosts experienced a batting collapse and were wrapped up at just 183 runs. The Former India batter VVS Laxman praised team India as he asserted that the side has rectified their mistakes from the WTC.

The Indian bowling line-up was brought under the scanner for the disappointing display in the finals of the WTC. But the team seemed to have right the wrongs as since the beginning of Day one the pacers looked lethal with the ball. Laxman thus pointed that the team has been able to turn their fortunes by working on themselves in every possible way and by understanding the English conditions better.

“It was a fantastic effort from India, right from the first over Bumrah bowled. The mistakes that were made in the World Test Championships final, I think they have rectified it and the only way to do so was by going to the nets, training, working on the areas of concern,” Laxman told ESPNcricinfo.

Bumrah and Shami bowled the right lengths: VVS Laxman

Bumrh went wicketless in the WTC final and that brought him under scrutiny. But on day one of the Test match the speedster scalped the wicket of the opener Rory Burns on the fifth delivery and further ended up picking four wickets. Shami too looked lethal with the ball since the beginning and picked three wickets. Laxman heaped praises on both of them and highlighted the need for the bowlers to be in top form.

“Bumrah and Shami bowled the right lengths as one has to be effective in English conditions. To win a Test series, a team needs to have two or three bowlers in top form and what we saw on Day 1 from Bumrah and Shami is top rhythm,” added the former batter.

India’s pacers made the most of the conditions on the opening day as they concentrated more on the line and lengths. This is a positive sign for the side and a healthy lead now might make them fancy their chances to dominate the match further.
