His manager, Mihir Diwakar revealed the reason why he made the announcement on 15th August.

Mihir Diwakar said that the 39-year-old is a true patriot of the nation. He mentioned that there could be a no bigger day than the Indian Independence Day for MS Dhoni to say goodbye to international cricket as quoted by India Today. Diwakar also revealed the fact that discussions about Dhoni’s retirement have been going on for a while now. However, he added that they didn’t decide on a date to make the announcement.

Earlier, MS Dhoni was expected to feature in the T20 World Cup 2020 after considering his performance in IPL 2020. However, since the mega event is postponed until next year due to the ongoing global pandemic, it might have prompted him to take a call.

MS Dhoni’s exit from Test cricket back in 2014 was also a low-key affair. In the middle of the series against Australia Down Under, he decided to hang his boots from the longest format of the game.
