There are people who've simply wanted to pull this team down: Ravi Shastri

Team India created history by winning the Test series in Australia for the first time in 71 years. The path wasn’t easy for them though. They came close in South Africa and England to win a number of Test matches but failed to latch on to the opportunities. But they learned from the mistakes and came out on top where it mattered the most. No Asian team had won until now down under and India, under the head coach Ravi Shastri, achieved the feat and deserve all the praise coming their way.

Having said that, Virat Kohli and Co. have come under the scanner most of the times for their questionable team selections. Those have cost the team more often than not while even Shastri’s role has been questioned. Playing Kuldeep Yadav at overcast Lord’s while dropping Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara in South Africa and England respectively at the start of the series wee few of the blunders committed.

However, for Shastri, all those were an attempt to try out combinations and has no regrets with it. He has also taken a jibe at ‘some people’ saying they want to pull this team down from a high.

They only want to take continuous jibes

“There are people who’ve only wanted to criticise this team, taking continuous jibes. Social media is fine, you get all sorts and none of that matters as long as you do what you have to do and do it right. But there are people who’ve simply wanted to pull this team down and mind you, some have not been very subtle about it either. That’s why I said what I said in the press conference after the Sydney Test,” Ravi Shastri said while speaking to the Times of India.

The 56-year-old also went on to say that this team doesn’t pay heed to any such comments and is intent on doing well for the country. He pointed out how the team has improved over the years and has come through the ranks in the last five years especially in the longest format of the game.

“Before my first stint with the team, India were number five or something (in Test rankings). The last three years they’ve been number One and that’s going to be the case for some time now. Those who want to keep abusing and ranting can continue doing that. Sooner or later they’ll understand they don’t matter,” Shastri further added.
