Kohli was 18 when his father, Prem, passed away due to a heart attack in the wee hours on December 19, 2000. Kohli, who was batting overnight in a Ranji game against Karnataka, surprised everyone by bracing back the field during the next day’s play and stitching a crucial 90-run knock to save Delhi from the follow-on.
Kohli’s grit and commitment to the game earned him many accolades post the incident. Since then, there was no looking back for Kohli as he rose up the ranks and became one of the best batsmen of the current era. The prolific run-machine of India has so far amassed over 20,000 international runs at an average of over 50 across all formats.

Apart from Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar also shared an old picture with his father Ramesh and said he always remembers his father’s advice of being a good person. “I shall always remember your invaluable advice to “Strive to be a good person first”. Thank you for everything,” tweeted the Little Master.
