England’s newest find Richard Gleeson had an excellent debut against India during the second T20I match played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on July 9 (Saturday). The right-arm pacer scalped three big wickets of skipper Rohit Sharma, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, and former captain Virat Kohli in his four-over quota. He was very economical as well as he conceded just 15 runs in those 24 deliveries.

Meanwhile, former England cricketer and World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has praised Gleeson for his bowling performance during the second T20I encounter. He also emphasized the fact that Gleeson looks a bright prospect and team England should prepare him for the 2023 World Cup in India.

Richard Gleeson’s debut was remarkable: Eoin Morgan

“Gleeson’s debut was remarkable. England can add another name to that not-so-long list of bowlers that can contribute at the international level. He comes in with a reputation of being great at the end of innings for his county in various forms but he came in here, hit a length hard and fast, and dismissed Kohli, Pant, and Sharma,” Morgan said to Sky Sports.

“It was extraordinary. This is a huge find for English cricket and one they can build towards the next World Cup and possibly the next 50-over World Cup [in India] next year,” he talked about the prospect of Gleeson getting a long run into the World Cup season.

Despite Gleeson’s valiant effort with the ball, team India went on to win the match by a comfortable margin. Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja played a handy knock as the Men in Blue reached the 170-run mark in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar wreaked havoc with the new ball as he scalped the wickets of both openers Jason Roy and skipper Jos Buttler.

The Three Lions could never recover from the early jolts they faced as the rest of the Indian bowling line-up also contributed decently. The Men in Blue will be looking to extend their dominance during the last T20I to be played on Sunday, July 10.
