Ahead of the second Test against West Indies, England pacer Jofra Archer had stunned the cricket fraternity after breaching the biosecurity protocol. Archer had broken the protocol by driving back to his flat in Hove instead of going straight to Old Trafford. According to reports, the pacer had gone to his home to meet his dog.

The board took a strong action by axing him from the squad just a few hours from the second Test. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the players from both sides were bound to follow the regulations during the course of the Test series. Archer was also fined and warned for his actions and he had to stay in isolation for five days.

After testing negative for COVID-19 twice, Archer joined the England squad. However, he is unlikely to be a part of England’s Playing XI for the third Test at Old Trafford. Archer’s move invited a lot of criticism as many former players including Michael Holding and Nasser Hussain censured his decision. The Barbadian-born pacer even had to suffer racial abuse in the wake of the incident.

Salman Butt was banned for his involvement in 2010 fixing scandal

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt, who was banned from competitive cricket for his involvement in fixing scandal in 2010, also slammed Archer for breaching the protocol. Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Butt said that Archer should not have broken the rules which are being laid amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, netizens responded to Butt’s comments by roasting him on social media. Butt, along with Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, was banned for the fixing scandal. The then skipper Butt had orchestrated the Mohammad Amir’s deliberate no-balls in 2010 at Lord’s, in return for money offered by undercover journalist Mazhar Majeed posing as a bookmaker.

All the three players made their comeback to competitive cricket but only Amir has played international cricket so far. The speedster has plied his trade for Pakistan in all three ICC events– T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy and 2019 World Cup. Talking about Butt’s comeback to international cricket, chances of him donning the Pakistan jersey again look dim.
