In the last couple of series, Indian bowlers, surprisingly, have hogged the attention more than the spinners. Since ages, spinners are considered to be the spine of Indian cricket. Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh are regarded as three of the leading wicket-takers for the country. However, Indian pacers have also notched up their game in the last couple of years. The troika of Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav bagged all 20 wickets in the recently concluded pink-ball Test in Eden Gardens.

Following their triumph against Bangladesh, India extended their lead at the top of World Test Championship table. Virat Kohli and Co are poised first on the table with 360 points. The bowling force of India has played a vital role in steering their side to the top of the table. In India’s journey to becoming the No.1 Test team in ICC rankings, the world has witnessed many batting line-ups getting capitulated against their speedsters.

Rahul Dravid expressed that Indian pacers will become role models

Considering the current form of Indian pacers, Indian legend Rahul Dravid has opined that they will become the role models for the younger generation. He also touted India’s current bowling attack as one of the best that the country has ever produced. Dravid highlighted that the trio’s success will help the emerging players take the art more seriously than they previously used to.

“What Ishant, Shami, Umesh, Bhuvneshwar (Kumar) and Bumrah are doing is they are actually in a way becoming role models for a younger generation of boys, who believe now they can be successful as fast bowlers in India. I think it is great to see,” Dravid was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

“Obviously we had people like Kapil (Dev), Sri (Javagal Srinath), Zaheer (Khan) in the past. But now, as a group, probably this is one of the best fast bowling attacks we have ever had. I think that’s a great inspiration for a lot of these young boys,” Dravid added.

With India’s senior speedsters grabbing the headlines, Dravid also picked out a few pacers, who according to him are coming through the ranks. He suggested that the trio of Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi and Ishan Porel have the potential to pave their way to the international stage.
