Thousands of the ‘Master Blaster’s’ fans took to Twitter in support of Tendulkar, so much so that the tide has turned within a single day, with outpouring of support in favor of Tendulkar.

Social media is a very fickle place. One moment, the whole social media fraternity might favor you, and the next moment, you will be despised. People will troll you, and moments later, they will praise you.

One national icon who had managed to be ‘controversy-free’ for a large part of his three-decade public life is the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. The ‘Master Blaster’ had always chosen his words carefully and had also not taken a firm stand in many of the sensitive issues, including the match-fixing scandal that shook the cricketing world.

But then, Tendulkar decided to voice out his opinion on the issue that has been raging in the country, the farmers’ protest. Taking an apparent dig at pop star Rihanna, Tendulkar was of the view that external forces of the country should only be spectators and not participants. He also urged his countrymen to stay united in these trying times. Well, this is Tendulkar’s tweet.

As soon as his tweet was put out, there were many people who vehemently criticized Tendulkar for taking a stand against the farmers. Such was the ire against the cricketing icon, that many hashtags were trending on Twitter a few hours after he put out the tweet.

The youth workers of the Congress party had even gone to the extent of pouring oil on Tendulkar’s cutouts. Now, this is interesting because it was the Congress party that recommended Tendulkar’s name for the Bharat Ratna award in the first place, but that discussion is for another day.

But now, it is time for the multitude of Tendulkar’s worshippers to come together. Thousands of the ‘Master Blaster’s’ fans took to Twitter in support of Tendulkar, so much so that the tide has turned within a single day, with an outpouring of support in favor of Tendulkar.

#IstandwithSachin started trending on Twitter, and many have begun to quote several instances where Tendulkar stood for his nation. Many Twitter users pointed out that Tendulkar was the first batsman to wear the Indian flag on his helmet, while many others opined that Tendulkar will continue to be the God of the sport.

Even Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth tweeted in support of Tendulkar. Well, it is not often that Tendulkar hogs the limelight for the wrong reasons, but looking at the outpouring of support in favor of Tendulkar, it is clear that he still remains the darling of India, even many years after his retirement.
