Cricket, as a game, is evolving at a rapid pace with so many things, which once were considered impossible to achieve is now attainable. A lot of revolution has taken place, over the years, in the gentlemen’s game and most of the credit to that goes to the shortest format of the game,i.e. T20 cricket.

The onset of the 3-hour cricket game has given rise to money, fame, fan base, sponsors, and most importantly increased employment in the field related to cricket, directly or indirectly. Cricket is changing exponentially and records which seemed impossible a decade ago, are being broken pretty fast.

Initially, the idea of reaching a milestone figure of 200 for an individual player in 50-over cricket was considered an unimaginable task. However, in the past decade or so, cricketing fraternity witnessed so many players (six to be precise) breaching the barrier of reaching an individual score of 200 with Sachin Tendulkar becoming the first player to do so way back in 2010 against the Proteas.

Now the question arises, is this magical figure of 200 is achievable by an individual player in the T20 cricket?. Yes, we have witnessed this in the local tournaments but is there any possibility of watching this happen in T20I or major T20 leagues in near future?. Well, future can’t be predicted and the pace with which the gentlemen’s game is moving forward it is obviously possible to see this happen.

Let’s have a look at some of the players who can do the impossible task of scoring a double century in 20-over cricket

Rohit Sharma (India)

Unarguably, Rohit Sharma is a genius of strokeplay, class, and elegance with many terming him as the most stylish player to watch when in full flow. The 31-year-old, who made his debut in 2007, is now one of the mainstays in the Indian limited-overs set-up. Coming from the state of India known for producing exceptional cricket talents, the Mumbai-born batsman is one of the most destructive batsmen in the modern day cricket and is known for tearing any bowling attack apart with his lazy elegance and sheer timing.

The ‘run machine’, capable of hitting sixes at will, already have a handful of records to his name with one being the highest individual ODI score of 264 against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens. The right-handed batsman also holds the record of hitting the most number of double centuries (two) in 50-overs cricket. Given the history and the form he is in, Rohit Sharma is definitely on top of the list of contenders who are capable of scoring a double century in T20 cricket.
