Veteran all-rounder Irfan Pathan is well aware of Sourav Ganguly’s leadership qualities. The former India skipper formally took charge as BCCI President on Wednesday and in the process became the first captain to hold an important position in Indian cricket in 65 years. Irfan Pathan had made his debut under Ganguly’s captaincy as a teenager.

Irfan Pathan has now backed Ganguly as the BCCI president. He congratulated his ex-teammate on getting the big role and is confident the new president will work for the betterment of the game in the country. Pathan said that Ganguly always had the leadership skills as he made it clear he has high hopes from the legendary batsman.

“I wish Sourav Ganguly very good luck as he takes over as BCCI President today. I am sure he will work towards the betterment of Indian cricket. He always had the perfect leadership skills on the field and it is time for him to lead from the front once again,” Irfan Pathan told CricTracker in an exclusive interview.

Well, Sourav Ganguly is no stranger to bailing Indian cricket from trouble. He had faced a similar situation when he took over as the captain in 2000 in the wake of the match-fixing scandal. Ganguly had gone on to revive Indian cricket and carved his own place in the history of Indian cricket. It is now time for him to do the same as an administrator.

Sourav Ganguly on the most important man in Indian cricket

Despite being elected as the BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly has made it clear that not him but captain Virat Kohli is the main man in Indian cricket. He vowed to support the Indian captain ‘in every way’. Ganguly also hailed the current team as he reiterated that he and the board will always back Kohli in his quest to take Indian cricket forward.

“I will speak to him tomorrow. He is the captain of India. He is the most important man in Indian cricket. I look at that way. We will support him in every way. He wants to make this team the best in the world. It’s a great team… the way they have been a fantastic side with the way they have played their cricket in the last 3-4 years.

Yes, you can say they haven’t won the World Cup but you don’t win World Cups every time. Hopefully, we will support whatever he wants and ensure Indian cricket moves forward smoothly,” said Ganguly.
