Indian batter Murali Vijay was recently involved in an altercation with fans during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match. Things could have gone ugly if the security personnel deployed on the ground had not intervened.

The incident occurred during the penultimate group stage match of the 2022 TNPL between Madurai Panthers and Ruby Trichy Warriors in which the former went on to win the match by 36 runs. Talking about the incident, Vijay came to the ground as a substitute fielder and was stationed near the boundary line when it all happened.

It all started when the crowd started chanting Dinesh Karthik’s name

In the videos being widely circulated on social media platforms, the chants of “DK…DK” can be heard to which Vijay humbly asked the crowd to calm down, while joining his hands. However, the fans intensified their cheering which did not go down well with the batter.

In another video, Vijay can be seen getting into a physical altercation with a spectator as the crowd started charging towards the batter before the ground security intervened and dispersed the crowd.

To note, both Vijay and Karthik have a history as Nikita Vanjara, Karthik’s first wife, allegedly had an affair with Vijay as she decided to marry him after getting separated from the wicketkeeper-batter. Karthik then went on to marry one of India’s prominent squash players Dipika Pallikal in 2015.

Notably, Vijay made a strong comeback in TNPL 2022 after being out of action for quite a long time as he smashed an excellent hundred for his team Ruby Trichy Warriors in his previous game. However, his side did not qualify for the knockouts and finished seventh on the points table.

Meanwhile, Karthik played an excellent knock against West Indies during the first T20I encounter on July 29 (Friday) as he was adjudged the Player of the Match for his outstanding strokeplay. Karthik will be seen in action during the second T20I to be played on August 1 (Monday).
