The sixth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL 2022) will kick off on 23rd June, with the final to be played on 31st July. The regional league has been a great success as it has promoted talented youngsters to a bigger stage and entertained the crowd with exciting encounters while doing so. The competition features eight teams who tussle for a chance to lift the coveted trophy. The league was inaugurated by former Indian skipper MS Dhoni in 2016, and the inaugural edition featured popular players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay, Dinesh Karthik, and Lakshmipathy Balaji.

Defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies are the most successful franchise in the league’s history, with three titles. Salem Spartans (Tuti Patriots) and Siechem Madurai Panthers have got their hands on the trophy on one occasion each. The competition follows a round-robin format in the league phase followed by a knockout stage to be played by the top four teams, similar to that of IPL.

The league has provided a platform to some exciting talents in the past with names such as T. Natarajan, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Washington Sundar making the jump to the biggest leagues after impressing in TNPL. Sai Kishore is the latest name to be on the list. He won the IPL 2022 title with Gujarat Titans after a few handy performances for the franchise. The left-arm orthodox bowler is the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 68 scalps to his name.

The sixth edition of the TNPL will be broadcast live on Star Sports 1 & Star Sports 1 HD. The Tamil viewers can enjoy the tournament on Star Sports 1 Tamil.

The live-action of the TNPL 2022 matches can also be streamed online on the popular streaming service Disney+ Hotstar. 

The tournament will commence on 23rd June with a clash between defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies and Nellai Royal Kings in Tirunelveli. The final will be played on 31st July in the city of Coimbatore, commencing at 7:15 pm.
