TNPL draft to take place later this month

The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) draft is scheduled to take place on May 31 at the ICC Grand Chola from 10:30 am onwards. A total of 794 players have registered for the mega event. Each team has retained three cricketers. There will be a couple of rounds in the draft system. There will be two sets of players from which the franchises will have to select.

“A” – Pick any player including capped player

“UC” – Pick only uncapped player i.e. player who has not represented India or TN in Ranji / List A ODI or List A T20 games.

Therefore, every team will have five players in their kitty. From the third round, teams can pick 16 players from the number of rounds in order to ensure that every franchise has 19 cricketers.

The (TNPL) is a celebrated cricket tournament in Tamil Nadu. The upcoming edition of the tournament will begin from July 11. The schedule hasn’t been released yet and is expected to be announced very soon.

Third season on the way

The tournament commenced in 2016 as eight teams participated in the inaugural edition. The TUTI Patriots beat the Chepauk Super Gillies in the Final by 122 runs to be crowned as the champions. In the second season, the finalists remained the same, however, that time around, Chepauk managed to brush their opponents aside by six wickets to lift their maiden title.

The event is in its third season and it’s anticipated to be another exciting season. The likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Subramaniam Badrinath have participated in the league. On the eve of the last season, MS Dhoni, the skipper of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), graced his presence at the venue and entertained them by hitting a few sixes against a bowling machine.
