TNPL player draft to be held tomorrow

The Player Draft of the inaugural edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) will be held at Crowne Plaza, Chennai, on Saturday, July 30, 2016.

The proceedings will kick-start with a press conference, to be addressed by senior officials of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) and TNPL, at 10.30 am. There will be multiple press conferences through the day.

The eight franchises will get to choose from as many as 888 players. A team can pick a minimum of 17 and maximum of 19 players. The players have been divided into three main price bands. They are as under:

(i) International players who have represented the Senior India team (Rs 5 lakh/Rs 4 lakh/Rs 3 lakh);

(ii) Players who have played tournaments conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India — multi-day/one-day/T20 format (Rs 2.50 lakhs/Rs 2 lakhs/Rs 1.50 lakh)

(iii) Other Players (Rs 1 lakh/Rs 75,000/Rs 50,000)

The curtain raiser of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) will air on Star Sports 1 and Star Sports HD 1 at 8 PM tonight. The inaugural edition of the TNPL will commence on August 27 and will conclude with the final at Chennai on September 18, 2016. Star Sports will broadcast the 31-match tournament.

Some big names such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay, Dinesh Karthik and Lakshmipathy Balaji to name a few are set to feature in the first season of the TNPL.
