Virat Kohli’s team is probably one of the best in this generation. There is no doubt that Kohli has built a very successful team and made the best of his side’s talent. However, something which he would etching to win is a world event.

After India’s crushing defeat in the World Cup semi-final of 2019, the quest has somehow increased. Considering how good the team had performed in the league matches, the question which lies in front of everyone is when will India finally win another world event.

During an interaction, former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir talked about Kohli’s career as a captain. Upon being asked if there’s a long way to go for Kohli as a captain, Gambhir agreed. According to the former Indian player, as a leader of the team, Kohli has a lot left to achieve.

Till you win those big trophies you will never be able to fulfil your entire career: Gautam Gambhir

“Lots! It is a team sport. You can keep scoring your own runs. There are people like Brian Lara who have scored so many runs. There are people like Jacques Kallis who have won nothing. Virat Kohli at the moment has won nothing, to be honest as a leader. He has a lot to achieve,” Gambhir said during the latest episode of Star Sports show, Cricket Connected.

Gambhir helped India win two big world events. He scored a decisive 75 run-knock in the T20 World Cup 2007 final which helped India beat Pakistan. Later on, he scored another match-winning 97-run knock against Sri Lanka in 2011 World Cup final.

Kohli was part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad and later went on play a decisive role in 2013 Champions Trophy final. However, on both occasions, MS Dhoni was the captain. Under Kohli, India lost the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Final against Pakistan.

Further talking about his achievements so far in international cricket, Gambhir expressed that it is necessary to win big trophies to fulfil one’s career.

“You can keep scoring those big runs but according to me, till you win those big trophies you will never be able to fulfil your entire career,” Gambhir added.

India has a good chance to win a trophy under Kohli with two of the three upcoming World Cups to be played in India. ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021 and ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023 will be held in India.
