‘Together through the highs and lows’ – Virat Kohli pens down an emotional message after RCB’s exit from IPL 2020

Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bangalore’ (RCB) captain, wrote a heartwarming message after his team made an exit from the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). On Friday, November 6, the Red Army lost to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The defeat brought the curtains down on the team’s journey in the tournament.

Virat, from a personal point of view, didn’t quite have the greatest of times. The 32-year-old failed in the last match as he was caught down the leg-side off Jason Holder, who picked up three wickets. After RCB bowed out, Kohli talked about being together during the highs and lows of their journey. He also expressed pride in having represented the franchise over the years.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “Together through the highs and lows. It’s been a great journey for us as a unit. Yes, things did not go our way but proud of the whole group. Thank you to all our fans for your support. Your love makes us stronger. See you all soon.”

RCB’s campaign in brief

RCB started the tournament with a victory over SRH when Yuzvendra Chahal’s three-wicket haul took them over the line at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In fact, the spinner ended up becoming the Player of the Match for his stupendous spell. However, from there on, they strained to find their feet a wee bit. They won games but also lost quite a few of them in the event.

In the end, RCB finished fourth on the points table with seven wins and as many defeats. In the Eliminator, after being asked to bat first, they posted a meagre 131 after AB de Villiers scored a half-century. He also got support from Aaron Finch, who scored in the 30s after being asked to bat in the middle order for the first time in the T20 tournament.

SRH lost four wickets early in their run-chase. However, Kane Williamson and Jason Holder showed nerves of steel and took them over the finishing line with a couple of balls to spare.
