Chennai Super Kings’ campaign in the 2020 season had hit a roadblock after their win against the Mumbai Indians in their first match of the season. The three-time IPL champions suffered defeats in three consecutive outings, and their fortunes plummeted sharply.

Their openers were unable to get them off to a good start, and that was hurting the franchise. But then, on 4th October 2020, their openers ‘showed up’ and demolished the Kings XI Punjab bowling attack. The KL Rahul led side batted first and posted a competitive total of 178 runs on the board.

Anyone who felt that the Chennai side would crumble again was in for a surprise. The opening combination of Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis made light work of the target to hand CSK a comprehensive 10 wicket victory. While Watson started the innings with a flurry of boundaries off Sheldon Cottrell, Du Plessis joined in by smashing Chris Jordan for four delectable boundaries in the 6th over of the innings.

And in the end, the two batsmen remained unbeaten as they put on a partnership of 181 runs for the first wicket. While Watson finished unbeaten on 83, Du Plessis scored a classic 87* to allow CSK to romp home with ease.
