Perhaps the most exciting part of the IPL apart from the actual competition is the Auction which precedes it. It’s always interesting to see how each team shapes up before the start of the cash-rich league. Moreover, it’s intriguing when unknown faces start a bidding war, ahead of some top International stars. Varun Chakravarthy and Sam Curran attracted healthy bids and are among the new faces in this edition of the IPL.
While a player’s form before the auction plays a major role in determining the bids that we would get in the auction, the ones that have hit a purple patch in the last few months missed out on a contract and that was the most surprising part. Mind you, these players were at their very best heading into the auction and were quite unfortunate to have missed out on the opening bid.

5. Andile Phehlukwayo
Andile is one of the most underrated players in World Cricket. The bowling all-rounder from South Africa has let the ball do the talking in the past few months and his recent 4/22 in the second ODI against Pakistan is a testimony to that statement. His medium-pace is deceptive and is tough to pick-up on bowling tracks. Phelukwayo also has tricks up his sleeve which makes him a valuable asset in the death overs.
With the bat, Phelukwayo can strike a few towards the end or provide with the final assault. Either way, with a base price of meagre 50 lakhs, Andile was unlucky to attract any bids in the recently concluded IPL 12 auction.
