Australia’s successful chase of 256 in Mumbai is now the 2nd highest ever successful chase in ODI cricket during a 10-wicket victory. This was only the 2nd time India lost an ODI match by 10 wickets on home soil. The 2005 Kolkata ODI against South Africa was the first such instance. This is also the first time Australia won by 10 wickets in an ODI since beating Bangladesh by the same margin in the 2007 World Cup.

This was the 2nd time India lost an ODI match by 10 wickets while defending a 200+ target. The other such instance was during the 1997 Bridgetown ODI where West Indies chased down 200 in 44.4 overs. Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Stuart Williams scored 109 and 78 respectively. In fact, Australia never won an ODI match by 10-wicket margin while chasing even a 150+ target before this game.

The 256-run chase by Australia is also the highest ODI chase during a 10-wicket win against the home side. The previous highest was 236 by New Zealand against the Zimbabwe team. In fact, Australia’s chase of 256 was also the 5th highest successful chase by a 10-wicket margin in List A cricket and also the first-ever 250+ chase without losing a wicket against the home team in this format.
