Ever since its inception, there has been a perpetual debate around the two important aspects that complete cricket as a sport; batting, and bowling. Fans frequently argue that the widespread success of T20 cricket all across the globe has tilted the sport unfairly in the favour of batsmen.

The argument’s quite an interesting one and has several multi-faceted aspects to it which can all be discussed individually. But purely from the surface-evidence, it is hard to disagree with the criticisms. With passing time, batsmen have found run-scoring a lot easier, which has, in turn, allowed them to score big and cross the three-figure mark on a frequent basis.

In fact, a quick look through some of the franchises’ run-scoring history reveals that certain teams have developed a pattern around their batsmen; which, subsequently, has allowed them to score centuries more consistently. So, in an attempt to decipher these teams high-scoring patterns, here’s a look through 5 T20 franchises that have recorded the most centuries.

Here are the top five teams with most centuries in T20 leagues:

Hyped as one of the most exciting, upcoming T20 franchises, the Somerset County Cricket Club (SCCC) round off the final spot on the list with 12 centuries to their name. Over the years, Somerset has featured some top-rated T20 batsmen in their lineup; the likes of Chris Gayle, Cameron White and Kieron Pollard being some of them. Despite that- the team has failed to emulate its successful combination from their title-winning 2005 season.

But judging from their trajectory over the last couple of seasons, things do look quite promising for the men in maroon- especially on the batting scheme of things. Last year’s Blast proved to be a breakthrough season for the team’s young batting core. Led from the front by their Pakistani import Babar Azam, captain Tom Abell and opener Tom Banton; the team notched up three-centuries and finished sixth on the South group points table.

Historically, Somerset have always been a batting-heavy team, with some of the most explosive batting names in world cricket among their ranks. Each of Marcus Trescothick, Cameron White, and Babar have registered two centuries for the team. Chris Gayle holds the high-score record in the club’s history; thanks to his splendid knock of 151* (62) against Kent in the 2015 season.
