After claiming 2011 World Cup final was fixed, former Sri Lanka Sports Minister now says it’s only his ‘suspicion’

  • Former Sri Lanka Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage had recently stunned the entire cricket fraternity by claiming that the 2011 World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka in Mumbai was fixed.
  • Aluthgamage was Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister when the World Cup took place in India.
  • In the iconic final at the Wankhede Stadium, MS Dhoni and his troops trounced the Lankan men to lift the trophy after 28 years.

BCCI asks for ‘no terror attack guarantee’ from the PCB after Wasim Khan’s visa demands

  • Wasim Khan, the Chief Executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) earlier said that Pakistan has asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to give a written assurance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), that they won’t be having visa-related issues when they travel to India for the 2021 T20 World Cup and the 2023 50-overs World Cup.
  • The comment hasn’t gone down well with the BCCI by any stretch of the imaginations.
  • An official from the world’s richest cricket board, said that as per the rules, government shouldn’t interfere in how the game is played.

Krishnappa Gowtham speaks on KXIP turning into mini-Karnataka

  • Krishnappa Gowtham would be turning out for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
  • The all-rounder played for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2017 and 2018 after which he was traded to the KXIP.
  • But in a Punjab-based team, Gowtham would be plying his trade alongside some of his teammates in the Karnataka team.

Chennai police seizes Robin Singh’s car for breaking lockdown rules

  • The coronavirus pandemic has created a lot of ruckus in India. Some of the states in India, including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Delhi, have been deeply affected.
  • In TN, the government announced a further 12-day complete lockdown bearing in mind the gravity of the current scenario.

  • Earlier this week, Wasim Jaffer, who retired from all forms of cricket in March, was appointed as the head coach of Uttarakhand in domestic cricket.
