Even MS Dhoni could not change India’s floundering conditions in the swinging conditions of New Zealand as the Men in Blue are staring down the barrel in the ongoing fifth ODI too. Despite winning the first three ODIs handsomely, India were beaten black and blue in the fourth ODI. With Trent Boult spitting fire in swinging conditions, picking up 5 for just 21, New Zealand bowled out India for just 92. The hosts had gone on to win the game by eight wickets.

However, hopes were high from the Indian team in the fifth game after Dhoni returned to the side. The veteran batsman had missed the previous two games due to injury. With Dhoni in red-hot form this year, the team-management must have thought his return would provide the much-needed solidarity to the team. However, the World Cup-winning skipper disappointed on his comeback and could score just 1.

But Dhoni could have done very little against the stunning delivery from Boult. Dhoni, who lasted just six balls, never looked comfortable in tough batting conditions before Boult ended his stay with a stunning inswinger. Dhoni was late with his feet movement and by the time he realized his mistake, the ball had already gone past his bat and shatter the stumps.

Here is a snippet showing the dismissal

India in trouble

India’s top-order once again failed to get going in tough batting conditions. The visitors won the toss and decided to bat first only to see the New Zealand pacers causing all sorts of trouble for them. Matt Henry gave the Kiwis the perfect start by cleaning up Rohit Sharma for just 2. Shikhar Dhawan did not last long too, falling to Boult for just 6. Newcomer Shubman Gill failed once again, departing for just 7. Boult then piled more misery on the tourists by dismissing Dhoni for just 1 and leave India reeling at 18 for 4.
